Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
● Symptoms and Causes
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a term that describes disorders involving long-standing (chronic)inflammation of tissues in digestive tract. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) describe a group ofcomplex intestinal disorders characterized by inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and are manifested in two main forms, ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).
The exact cause of IBD is unknown. However, several factors can increase your risk of developing UC and Crohn’s disease, such as the immune system, smoking, ethnicity and Environmental factors.

●DSS Induced C57BL/6 IBD Model 【Mechanism】Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), mainly comprising ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease, are complex and multifactorial diseases with unknown etiology. For the past 20 years, to study human IBD mechanistically, a number of murine models of colitis have been developed. These models are indispensable tools to decipher underlying mechanisms of IBD pathogenesis as well as to evaluate a number of potential therapeutics. Among various chemically induced colitis models, the dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis model is widely used because of its simplicity and many similarities with human ulcerative colitis. This model has both advantages and disadvantages that must be considered when employed. |

●TNBS Induced C57BL/6 & SD & Chronic C57BL/6 IBD Model 【Mechanism】Hapten reagent 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) induced colitis introduced in 1989 by Morris et al. bears a pivotal role especially in the pre-clinical testing of various chemical or natural compounds in terms of their anti-inflammatory and/or anti-oxidative effects. Briefly, TNBS colitis belongs to the group of chemically induced colitis animal models. TNBS induced colitis is a commonly utilized animal model that shares significant properties with human Crohn's disease. Collectively, despite the introduction of genetic and spontaneous models that mimic Crohn's disease, TNBS-colitis remains a potent tool in our armament torium to study immunopathogenesis and potential treatments of the disease. |
●OXA Induced C57BL/6 & BALB/c & SD IBD Model 【Mechanism】Mouse models of colitis induced by the intracolonic application of oxazolone (OXA) and 2,4,6-trinitro-benzene sulfonic acid (TNBS), which have histological features that resemble human UC and CD, respectively. In particular, previous studies demonstrated that Th and Treg cells play important roles during the development of IBD, and an OXA model has been used for studies on Th9 cells, whereas a TNBS model has been used to assess Th1 and Th17 cells. |
