Sjogren's syndrome (SjS)
● Symptoms and Causes
Sjogren's (SHOW-grins) syndrome is a disorder of your immune system identified by its two most common symptoms — dry eyes and a dry mouth. The condition often accompanies other immune system disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. In Sjogren's syndrome, the mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth are usually affected first — resulting in decreased tears and saliva.
Certain genes put people at higher risk of the disorder, but it appears that a triggering mechanism — such as infection with a particular virus or strain of bacteria — is also necessary.

● Models in place 【Date➡Models】
●Salivary Gland Protein Induced SjS Model in Mice 【Mechanism】Similar to induced models of many other autoimmune diseases, the first induced model of SjS was established by immunizing animals with tissue/cell extracts. C57BL/6 mice are susceptible to the development of salivary gland protein-induced SjS-like disease . After immunization, C57BL/6 mice show enhanced apoptosis and increased expression of M3R in the salivary glands. Furthermore, immunized C57BL/6 mice show inflammatory infiltration in the salivary glands and reduced saliva secretion. In addition, an enhanced Th17 cell response has been observed in the cervical lymph nodes and salivary glands of C57BL/6 mice during the development of disease . |
