Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA)
● Symptoms and Causes
Joint pain, stiffness and swelling are the main signs and symptoms of psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis is a form of arthritis that affects some people who have psoriasis — a disease that causes red patches of skin topped with silvery scales. Most people develop psoriasis years before being diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. But for some, the joint problems begin before skin patches appear or at the same time.
It seems likely that both genetic and environmental factors play a role in this immune system response. Many people with psoriatic arthritis have a family history of psoriatic arthritis. Physical trauma or something in the environment — such as a viral or bacterial infection — might trigger psoriatic arthritis in people with an inherited tendency.

● Models in place 【Date➡Models】
●Mannan Induced PsA Model in mice 【Mechanism】The mannan induced PsA model (PsA) in mice is a newly developed model in which both skin lesions resembling those seen in Ps as well as the joint inflammation of PsA can be found. Disease is mediated by TNF-a produced by macrophages which leads to T cell activation and IL-17A production. The increased level of IL-17A recruit neutrophils to joint and skin and results in an inflammatory response. Onset of joint and skin inflammation is seen within a few days after the mannan injection and slowly heals out after one week if not reactivated by a second mannan injection. In addition to the clinical evaluation of inflammation, disease progression is also accompanied by increased number of cells in the spleen. |
